Back in mid-May, I blogged about
planning "Summer Adventures With Haley" and how my granddaughter and
I were going to have a variety of adventures during her summer vacation. I was
going to start planning and we could start adventuring as soon as school was
out. Well, Nana didn't follow through very well at all. Nana feels bad.
Somehow (don't ask me how), the
days of June and July simply flew by and here we are. Today is July 30 and we
had our first adventure this morning...we went to see "Earth to Echo"
at the theater...not really an adventure. True, we did see each other at a wide
variety of events, i.e., birthdays, Father's Day, Fourth of July, baby shower,
but those weren't really adventures either.
That will change next week when we
leave town to go to the Olympic Game Farm on the Olympic Peninsula. I tried to
get her to go for more than one day/night, but she wasn't terribly enthused,
but that's okay, I'm making our one night away a very special night.
We are going to stay in a Bed and
Breakfast in Sequim, but not just any B&B...we're going to stay at the Red
Caboose Getaway (RCG). The RCG is themed cabooses situated in "roundhouse
fashion" with an active duck pond in the middle. Each car is luxurious and
uniquely remodeled and themed interiors to meet first class passenger
expectations, queen feather beds, and authentic exteriors. Each one has a beverage center with small
fridge, coffee, tea or hot cocoa, cable service, LCD TV/DVD with themed movies,
clock radio, hair dryer, RCG lavender soap, shampoo, soft cuddly robes and free
Hi-speed broadband WiFi (she’ll probably like the WiFi best). We could have
stayed in the Orient Express, Circus, Western, Lavender Limited or the Grape
Escape but I chose the Casey Jones because I thought Haley would like that
best. And, Stationmaster Olaf is a train enthusiast so there's lots of
authentic train memorabilia.
The following morning, we’ll have
breakfast in the Silver Eagle, a restored 1937 art deco stainless steel private
dining car. The breakfast is multicourse and the tables are set with white
linen, fine china, crystal glasses and fresh flowers. We’ll have the
opportunity to dine as we would have decades ago as the train carried us from
one coast to the other.
I haven’t yet decided if we should
leave early that day and go to the Olympic Game Farm or mosey along that day
and then do the Game Farm after our stay in such a great B&B. I think I’m
for moseying along that first day in the hopes that the Game Farm visit will be
so tiring we’ll just have to stay overnight once more. Of course, it won’t be
back at the RCG since we won’t have a reservation, but after one such fantastic
night, perhaps Haley will be agreeable to a less expensive and far more mundane
lodging.
